BIOGRAPHY

Erica Larsen grew up near Scottsbluff, Nebraska. In her undergraduate studies, she majored in graphic design at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. After two years Erica transferred to The Art Institute of Phoenix and graduated in 2003 with a B.A. in Media Arts and Animation.

Since graduating, Erica has worked as a motion graphics artist, and a K-12 art instructor while freelancing through her own business eekart.  She has been professionally freelancing web development, video production, motion graphics, mural restoration and production, graphic design, interdisciplinary art and animation. 

She received a research assistantship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as an Associate Interactive Media Developer (2006-2008) has assisted the independent filmmaker, Joanna Priestley (2009),  serves as an animation instructor for the Community Arts Partnership at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and has recently received a teaching assistantship as a web developer for the School of Film and Video also at CalArts (2011).  In October 2011, she was chosen to represent Calarts school of Film/Video as one of the visiting artists to the Jakarta Institute of the Arts in Jakarta, Indonesia to create a collaborative performance with the students for the Festival Kesenian Indonesia, a country-wide art festival in Isi Surakarta, Indonesia. Currently Erica is in her final year at CalArts pursuing an MFA in Experimental Animation and Integrated Media.

Erica’s art practice includes hybrid installations consisting of varying elements such as painting, moving image, dance, theater, interactivity, and experimental projection.  She is currently producing her thesis, which focuses on the experience of pregnancy in a highly interactive combination of science museum and amusement park fun house.  This spring she was awarded an Interdisciplinary Grant from Calarts (2011) for her proposed thesis.
