"MAGIC MIRROR" The Magic Mirror station is styled like a funhouse mirror but when a passerby stands in front of it they see the female organ system projected onto their body. The video is the anatomical and psychological changes that take place during pregnancy. Audio voice over describes what the viewer is seeing and a hospital gown is at arms reach if they need a better projection surface. I conceptualized this piece as a way to evoke the feeling of the invisible. During my pregnancy I read... a lot... but it was very jarring to read about what was going on in my body and not seeing or feeling it. This station's purpose is to give the "un-pregnant" a sense of what that feels like. So far, the Magic Mirror has been prototyped and is very successful in my intention. video documentation:
Here is the projected video of the first trimester:

PREG APPENDAGE The pregnant appendage will be made out of soft cloth, similar to terry cloth or felt. Contained in the appendage is a "fetus" which responds to sound and touch. We have prototyped the fetus by hacking a baby doll to move its arms and legs when it is touched. In January we will get it to respond to sound in hopes that when someone puts the belly on the baby will move when they or someone else touch the belly or talk to the baby.

BABY SIZE AS FRUIT/VEGETABLE Here's some Documentation of the prototype: I am currently working on a series of scientific styled "your baby at __ weeks" which displays the size of a fetus in the form of a fruit or vegetable which will be an animated projection on vellum placed in jars of liquid. Click here to see the results of projection experiments.

VIDEO QUIZ GAME I'm also concepting an interactive game/quiz "What can I eat?" or "Pregnant Menu" (?) where the player is presented with multiple restaurant menu boards and picks what is acceptable to eat during pregnancy before the line is gone or their hunger pains haven't caused them to throw up in public. I'm still rolling this one around in my head.
